The Archaeological Museum – Varna (Bulgaria) - short information

It was established in 1888 and has two main sections – Art and Archaeology. The archaeological section comprises the finds and the golden treasuers from the Varna necropolis, displayed in a very attractive way, as well as tools and articles of the Antique Thracian culture, Protobulgarian and Slav ceramic objects, medieval decorations, etc. The art section displays the icon-painting heritage of Northeastern Bulgaria. The most ancient icons date back to the 14-th century. These two halls give an axplanation to how Bulgarian culture survived through centuries of foreign domination.
